Minnesota Boys & Girls Clubs are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Speaker Emeritus Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark. This is a devastating loss for our state, and our deepest sympathies go out to their family, friends, and all who knew them.

Melissa Hortman was a dedicated public servant whose commitment to the well-being of all Minnesotans, especially our youth, was evident throughout her distinguished career. She understood the critical role that organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs play in providing safe, supportive environments and life-changing opportunities for young people. Her work in the legislature consistently reflected a deep care for the next generation, advocating for policies and resources that empowered them to reach their full potential.

We are incredibly grateful for her leadership, her advocacy, and her unwavering belief in the power of youth.

We join the entire state in mourning this profound loss.
